Known locally as Helen BeeLady, I am a beekeeper of 21 years experience and a Tutor for Oxfordshire Beekeepers' Association.
My passion is introducing people to the fascinating cooperative world of the honey bee. It is a privilege to reveal the super-organism of a beehive to newbies who are curious to find out how a colony works and see if they would like to support or keep honey bees themselves.
I started by watching my Grandpa tending his WBC hives in Somerset, a craft that had been passed down from his uncle, and his grandfather before him. I was intrigued by the calm methodical inspections, and the thoughtfulness and considered management that resulted in fabulous pollination of the surrounding gardens and orchards, and of course the sensational unmatched flavour of local honey that the bees produced.
Since then I gradually increased my apiaries and training, and now manage a number of hives for other people on their property. I offer fully-managed beekeeping services of your bees, or hire of my own hives which I continue to look after in your garden. I also teach beginner beekeepers and deliver Bee Discovery Experiences
Busy drone!?
Whilst a busy drone may be an oxymoron in the bee world, this trusty chap is the backbone of Helen's Local Honey, hard at work constructing bee hives and nuc boxes.
